"You'll die alone Hyde, in a pool of your sickness and when you're gone, when the world is rid of you, not even the starving will feast on your flesh for fear of catching the plague that lies beneath." The words ran through his head like a never-ending reel; they had plagued him ever since they had left the golden Fae's mouth, though he hadn't shown it at the time. He had been strong then. His body had been weak, but his mind, fueled by anger and pride, had been strong. He hadn't thought much of the words at the time. He had dismissed them as just that: words. They couldn't hurt anybody, not like fangs or claws. Engaged in battle for his life he had been too preoccupied to pay them any mind, but afterwards... he could think of nothing else. They rang in his head like thunder, they haunted his dreams at night until he was forced awake by his screams. He had never been a healthy wolf, and now every step he took proved more difficult than ever before. Lead paws seemed to crack the earth, causing large fissures to errupt in the hard ground beneath his starved frame. A trail of crimson poison dragged on behind him, serving as the only proof of his petty existence. With a devastating shake that was the equivalent of an earthquake in his small world, he collapsed in a heap of charcoal and neon green stained red. Steel eyes stared sadly straight ahead as his mind whirred slowly but consistently. He was lost in the phrase and now saw the truth in it: he was alone. Not even his other side would present himself now that he had lost everything. With a final sigh, his soul left his body below to rot, stinking and alone. His last thought confirmed the phrase that no one would find him, and those who did would not care. Glassy eyes rolled lifelessly skyward to reflect the pale heavens above in a dull shine. ---- Finally. This piece took a good... four hours altogether I'd say [maybe more]. A lot more coloring went into this than you'd know, as it's all in layers to make it look darker and more crisp. Inspired by an RP with my good friend, *Dakota-Spirit. The short story posted above, or the 'hypothetical death post' was what inspired the drawing, and it was all brought on by that quote. Thanks, Sam3 All in all, I've very proud of this piece. Sure, the scanner cut off a bit of the dandelion on the side and darkened the colors a tad, but it's on considerably larger paper than I'm used to, and so I'm just happy all the important stuff fit. Definitely my most favorite piece I've done in a while Hyde, this picture, and the story/post belong to ~Thechemist57, with the exception of the quote which belongs to *Dakota-Spirit Lyrics are The Mad Caddies Everyone hates me from the night before The man you saw wasn't me And now there's blood upon the bathroom floor I've got a disease |
